It seems that GOG.com released a very nice golden oldie today! It is the game ThemePark and it is also available for the Mac! Build your own Theme Park! Think you can design and build the greatest amusement park in the world? You select the site, you layout the rides. In fact, you control every aspect of running a profitable amusement park; from hiring employees, to developing new rides, to maintaining an adequate supply of soft drinks. Any mistakes, and the bustling hordes of fun-seekers will let you know. Oh, and that Merry-Go-Round in flames is a clue too.

You may think I don’t see much updates at the moment and where the heck are the new games? Well I am preparing and arranging all kind of stuff at the moment. Meanwhile there is need for some games, so I tested Worms Revolution and it runs great as far I could see in Crossover, when I played a couple of levels. I tested the Steam version of Worms Revolution only which can be purchased on Amazon (tested that version). So if you haven’t Crossover yet, then sign up here for for the 14 days trial. “But I have no money” or “I can’t pay for it!” Well then there is a solution and that is to Sign up here and then apply as an Advocate. In that case you can use the program free of charge, but you are expected then, to do some testing “being active” for them.
Use this CrossTie to install Steam into crossover and use the Steam serial to activate the game in Steam and let it download the game and start the fun!
Worms™ Revolution sticks an exploding sheep under worm-on-worm conflict and blasts it squarely into the 21st century. With 32 single player missions, 20 single player puzzles, online or local multiplayer for up to 4 players, 3 multiplayer modes, customisation, worm classes and dynamic water!

Here the first video Tutorial about Crossover. In this video I gonna demonstrate how to use CrossTie’s in Crossover and how simple this works (matter of opening the Crosstiefile and watch the automater do its work). I used in this video the “Crossover ready” game page of Worms Mayhem which will be the example page of what all pages in the end will look like (only the video in the slider be different of course). The Wineskin Wrapper will still be available though when it’s created already in the past. New game ports will be Crossover tested only.
I hope you will enjoy the video and that it may shine some light on how to use CrossTies. There will be a bunch other videos coming about some Crossover features and the main use of it. So I will make you guys all confortable with Crossover in no time :).
An important announcement and change of strategy:
As you all may know Steam had an update and all Steam wrappers failes to launch now. About 75 wrapper updates should be needed to be updated. Which means loads of work, and thats not all! This is the second time in a short time this happens. And I am not even talking about Mac OSX, one stupid update might mess up all the wrappers, just as it did with 10.7.5 and 10.8.2. It took me a year to do all the wrapper updates and I am still not done with it. All in all counted it together we need a solid app, which means if something happens, then it should be fixed in a snap! Not taht I am being busy for a year to get this updated in all wrappers.
So I took a big thought about and I came to the conslusion there only can done one thing. Go to something stable, an app which is suported by a big team with lots of experience in Wine. Noone fits better then Codeweavers with their program Crossover! I know these guys for quite a while and they are the greatest guys I know as company. They have the same passion as us, getting windows stuff working on our Macs (and Linux). They created the Mac Driver in Wine, they put in thousands of patches and fixes which made Wine as it is today! Without them Wine was still an simple application which couldn’t do much. We owe these guys our fun with Mac gaming! So I made the following decission: I will port new games from now on in Crossover only. I will update older games to crossover as well. But don’t panic! Games which will not work in Crossover, the wrapper will still be available on my site :) So no worries!
Some Crossover Benefits:
– Crossties: those are files which you can simply click on and all the installing and stuff will go automaticly. The “bottle” will be created with all tweaks needed inside.
– Extra features which arent in Wineskin. Crossover itself is designed and contains much more code then Wineskin. Quite logic knowing Codeweavers has a team of about 25 people!
– One app where you can install all your stuff into.
– Support of the Wine developers team which know WAY more then I do about wine.
– Saves loads of disc space when having one application installed
– Auto updates of the applciation.
– and so on…
I myself will be working on cross-ties and when new ones are made or ones are updated, then you will read it in the blog as well.
A question may rise: “But Crossover is not free!” Thats right, but this way you support the Mac community and the Wine project which makes this all possible. Another question which might be there: “But I have no money, I can’t pay for it!” Well then there is a solution and that is to Sign up here and then apply as an Advocate. You are expected then though, that you do some testing “being active” for them.
All in all this is the more solid solution for Mac gaming. If I cannot help, then they can :) Give it a chance and check it out free for 14 days without any costs…

I wanted to make a seperate post for a work around for the Steam client issue with the latest update. Thanks John for the config file tip!
It is possible to stop Steam updating to the latest version. To do this create a text file containing the following text: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable
Save the file as ‘Steam.cfg’ and put it in the steam folder of your wrapper doing: rightclick the specific Steam wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> navigate to the Steam folder and (re)place the file into the Steam wrapper and then launch Steam.. This needs to be done before you run Steam for the first time. If Steam had already updated itself then use a backup wrapper if you have one. So again this fix will only work if the Steam client isn’t updated yet.
Don’t want to redownload the whole game again? Rightclick wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder to the desktop and trash the old wrapper. Then Rightclick the “new” wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder into the Steam folder + the steam.cfg file and then launch the wrapper and you should be able to play without re-downloading anything again. We will meanwhile update the Steam wrappers where possible.
Ok, here is the first Steam wrapper updates! This one is for the game Worms Mayhem and Pinball I ported past 2 days. It’s too sad if you were able to play the game one day and then find out Steam won’t launch anymore. So two done and plenty to go :P.

For the ones not noticed Steam made a new update again and after update Steam won’t launch up again. I have good news and Bad news. The good news is that there is a fix for the problem! The bad news is that it is implanted in the latest Wine update. This has some very bad dis-advantages. One: all Steam wrappers needs to be updated to the latest Wine which wrings lots of work to me. Secondly, the newest wine might brake the game because it might not run in the Latest Wine Engine (only in older ones). So this means, the only thing I can do is update the wrapper to latest wine and pray that it still works. I have no luxery of changing engines to older versions here because in that case Steam will not launch. in short: THANKS A LOT STEAM!!! That is why I so hate game clients! One stupid update can mess everything up….
Anyway, then you know that if you have a Steam game and the game does not Launch anymore, that it is because of Steams latest update. We do our best to make the Steam wrapper updates in big numbers as quickly as possible, but I am in a very busy period at the moment. My real work expects me to do some Exams to catch up with the latest technology, so I have to study as well coming time. This means this is not a right timing of Steam to do this.
Friday the new Wine release should be there and I hope Doh123 will make an built of the latest wine engine fast so you guys can change engine yourself to fix the problem. I will make a video of it as well to bridge the time untill we have the wrapper uppates done. Anyway wish us luck….
Someone mentiond that the link of Castle of Illusions didn’t work. So I checked, and he was right. I saw zero downloads in the statistics, so I fixed the link I then ran with a quick eye to some of the pages of the links and saw some more links which needed a fix (zero downloads). Below some more of them. So if you run in any link which doesn’t work, simply use the contact form (use the alternate emailadres for now), and sent me an email with the question to fix the link so I can do so.
