Metal Gear Solid released on GOG.com + added in Porting Kit!

Awesome news!!! Yes I couldn’t believe it myself as well. Metal Gear Solid has reached the Shelves on GOG.com!! Tonight I added the GOG.com Source to Porting Kit and the day after tomorrow I will focus on Metal Gear 2 :) And yes yes, I will also look into the MSX version and to the other Konami collection of Contra and Castlevania. But first things first! Metal Gear Solid! Oh, I love the game and played it a lot in these days and in a matter of fact recently as well.

Update –> I added an extra exe for the VR missions as well now :) So after installation of the game you will see 2 icons: 1 for the main game and 1 for the VR missions.

And because the GOG.com version was launched last friday, I added the GOG.com source today as well + a brand new video tutorial! Yes thats right, and not just a normal video tutorial, no, a video with a a sneakpeak of Porting Kit 4.0 in Mac OS Big Sur 10.16! Yesseree, and you will love as much as I do. The beta is way close for release and only needs some finetuning before the beta will be released for the public!

Oh, and the game will of course work and install in Porting Kit 3.0 as well. Enjoy the game and enjoy the video and I have to say….get this game instanly on GOG.com and start playing! :)

Updated list tested games on Mac OS Big Sur 10.16

Updated list tested games on Mac OS Big Sur 10.16

As mentioned last week, i am doing a weekly post of newly tested games in Big Sur, and the games below were tested and working last week. For now it still counts, if it worked in Catalina then it works also in Big Sur. We past over 100 most popular games which are tested on Big Sur now, and beside testing, I also fixed a bunch of them which seems to had new install paths or had bugs which prevent them to work on Catalina and Big Sur, but now are Catalina/Big Sur compatible. I never had to change to test all games for Catalina because of the 32/64bit troubles that time, but now I am driven to do way more testing now we are quite on schedule.

New games added in the Big Sur tested games list since last week:
Mount and Blade
Mount and Blade – Fire and Sword
Mount and Blade – Warband
Return to Zork
Star Wars – Rebellion
The Temple of Elemental Evil
YS I
YS II
YS Origin (fixed for Catalina and Big Sur)
Zork Nemesis
Zork Grand Inquisitor

More port fixes and tested and working in Catalina/Big Sur.

More port fixes and tested and working in Catalina/Big Sur.

A good thing of the testing the game ports on Big Sur, is that I find out some unreported bugs. We are always busy to improve and fix ports when this get’s reported, but not always things get reported, and then these cases are present untill I find these problems myself. in this case I found this weekend 4 ports which I tested in Big Sur and fixed as well.  All the issues mentioned below were issues which were happening in all Mac OS versions (so not Catalina/Big Sur related).

Anno 1602 exe fixed:
The path of the game exe has been changed in one of the updates of the game by GOG.com. This caused installation failures. This has now been fixed.

Settlers IV exe fixed:
The path of the game exe has been changed in one of the updates of the game by GOG.com. This caused installation failures. This has now been fixed

Commandos Beyond Call of Duty (sound sturrer fix)
It seems that the last port update a dsound dll was forgotten to be removed which caused stuterring in the sound. This has now been fixed.

Grand Theft Auto 2 (GTA 2) auto install fix.
This port has been updated to a fully automated game install without requiring to manually download the game.

If you own the game and ran into issues with one of these games, then please search the specific game(s) in the Porting Kit database and install the game again (after downloading the offline backup setup file(s) from your GOG.com game library into your download folder). Enjoy the games!

Ports Fixed for Catalina and Big Sur

There are probably a bunch of games which I haven’t tested yet in Catalina yet, and for which I found out while testing for Big Sur it wasn’t working. These games I always try to fix and make them Catalina/Big Sur Compatible. A few I run into and fixed are:

If you tried those in the past to run on Catalina, then please retry now again :)
