Cardpocalypse for Mac

We don’t have these much in the Porting Kit, but here it goes: Cardpocalypse for Mac! Yes, another Card action game! From the award-winning indie game studio, Gambrinous, creators of Guild of Dungeoneering, comes an RPG where battles are played with an epic collectible card game. Cardpocalypse takes you back to the 1990’s, a time when computers used floppy disks, and people read magazines for video game cheat codes.  Best of all it’s included free with Cardpocalypse! Game works very nicely and is tested in Big Sur :) Have fun!

We always recommend having besides Porting Kit also Crossover as alternative. Crossover is more advanced, supports DX11 and has phone support other features. Crossover makes Porting Kit possible and when purchasing Crossover using the links here you support us with out work with Porting Kit. Get it here…

News regarding Apple Silicon (M1 chips) Macs with Porting Kit and Big Sur.

News regarding Apple Silicon (M1 chips) Macs with Porting Kit and Big Sur.

This post will clear up some clouds about the recently developed situation with Apple Silicon (Macs with a M1 Chip/Non-intel). Last week Apple released their new line with Mac’s with the new M1 chips and since last week available in the Apple Store/Mac resellers. So many people bought these Macs because of their performance and other benefits. However! The raising question is, will Porting Kit and the games work these Macs with Apple M1 chip?

The answer is “no” at the moment, and “yes” in the near future with the coming WS11WineCX20.0.2 Engine and Big Sur 11.1 (read 11.1 and not the active 11.0.1). How everything will work on these chips still needs be tested. What we do know is that Crossover will support it and while we are using the open source engines of it, it will work on Porting Kit too, but only with Big Sur 11.1. So if you have the 11.1 Beta, then only the WS11WineCX20.0.2 or higher engine is required. Due to some issues with the Basic WS11Wine20.0.0 Engines at crossover itself, we haven’t created an CX20 engine yet for the Porting Kit but WS11WineCX20.0.2 will be created for sure if not only for the Apple M1 Silicon Macs. This engine will be released soon. About the performance of the games on these Macs with M1 chips, we still need to test thoroughly, we do not know how every game will react on it using the Rosetta 2 emulation built into Big Sur.

If we read the report of Codeweavers, then it looks very promising, but not everything is “Alleluia” yet. Games may “Lag” and Codeweavers is working on finetuning the process. We from the Porting Kit Team will purchase an Mac Mini M1 Silicon Mac to test the games as well. We hope starting the testing within a few weeks because the Mac still needs to be ordered and we also need the CX20.0.2 Engine to be able to test it on Big Sur 11.1. We will start testing with the most popular games. We want to remind you all that playing all games on Apple M1 Silicon Macs is still a long road to go and if you were planning  to buy a new Mac and want to be certain to play your games, maybe buying an Intel Mac to get through the coming years (while we work on supporting Apple Silicon in Porting Kit), isn’t the worst idea.

Eventually Apple will also drop support for “Rosetta 2” within a few years, and then Codeweavers need to find a different solution which is most likely the Hangover project which seems to be on it’s way, but still a lot of work in process.

Conclusion, yes a lot is going on, and we might be a bit optimistic, but there is a lot of work which still needs to be done. Stay tuned on the paulthetall.com blog for updates about this and the release of the WS11WineCX20.0.2 engine.

Populous 3 – The beginning wrapper update

I heard that there was an issue with the Populous 3 regarding that main exe path. So I checked it out, and yup, it seems that GOG changed the main exe path from “populous – The beginning” to “Populous 3”, so I needed to adjust that. Now that’s fixed, the port should work again as attended in PK4.  PK3 has already a “safety” build-in which recognizes changes and fixes paths automatically, but that wasn’t build-in into PK4 yet. This is still on the todo list.  So if you own the GOG.com game and you ran into issues in PK4, then please reinstall the game using the new port update in the Porting Kit game library.

Changes:
– Fix main exe path (was changed in the latest update of the GOG.com installer)

Tex Murphy – The Pandora Directive for Mac

Another Native Mac game which worked on Mojave and below, is now ported so it is playable on Catalina 10.15.x and Big Sur and up! Tex Murphy – The Pandora Directive has been added into the Porting Kit database for Catalina OS and up! I played the game for a while and it works pretty well. The only thing i run into is that it regularly may occur that loading the next screen may take a couple of seconds (black screen), so in that cases, don’t panic and wait those couple of seconds before you can simply continue your quest. Have fun with this classic and get the game on GOG.com and install it into Porting Kit!

Wasteland for Mac is a golden oldie from 1988. which is now added and playable again in Porting Kit! Recruit the help you need, follow any leads you find, but beware. Game description:
The year is 2087, eighty-nine years after an all out nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union turned vast swaths of the Earth into a hellish wasteland where survival is a daily struggle against thirst, hunger, radiation sickness, ravaging raiders, and mutants – always mutants. You are a Desert Ranger, one of a band of stalwart lawmen born from the remnants of a U.S. Army detachment who survived the nuclear holocaust by holing up in a maximum security prison. You may wear ragtag uniforms and carry make-shift weapons, but the Desert Rangers are the only law left in what was once the American southwest.

Super Huey III for Mac

You like nostalgic arcade simulators? Well, Super Huey III for Mac may fit in that category. This game port works great and gives a lot of fun. Tested that game for a while (couple of missions) on my Macbook pro with Big Sur, and had some fun :) This entertaining GOG.com game is only $5,99 and I have to say that the creators of the game did a good job trying to bring back the nostalgie of it.

There is no Game: Wrong Dimension for Mac

There is no game Wrong Dimension is one of these games which really entrigued me (check trailer), and now I made it available for Mac! When I tested the game, I didn’t knew what to expect. I had not watched the trailer and was first focused how the game port was working (which worked flawlessly by the way). But then the funny narrator was starting to keep me playing. Making me to find out what he would say next if I would beat him with the puzzles. And it was really fun! I played about 1.5 hours in a row! That’s an accomplishment for a game to keep me focussed on it. So yes, this GOG.com game a recommendation to play this one. If you check the trailer you will get an impression. Game is tested on Catalina OS 10.15+ so, you are safe to try it out :) Enjoy!

Sea Dogs  – City of Abandoned Ships port update!

I got an e-mail about a crash bug in Sea Dogs  – City of Abandoned Ships. When investigating I found out that this had to so with a custom (WS9) engine which is not compatible for Catalina OS 10.15+. So we applied the “wine patch” in a custom WS11 engine so the crash won’t happen on Catalina 10.15.x+ anymore. We are happy that this game is now also Catalina/Big Sur and higher proof :) So if you own the GOG.com game, then install it in the updated port in the Porting Kit game library, and enjoy the game!

Changes:
– New custom WS11 engine so the game will work now on Catalina OS 10.15.x and up

Call to Power 2 port update!

I saw that there was a bug for the game Call to Power 2 for Catalina OS/Big Sur+ (uses 32->64 WS11 engine). So I checked it out and fixed the problem. The game wouldn’t launch with the WS11 engine because of regressions, but as mentioned fixed that issue. so if you own the GOG.com and you ran into issues, then please reinstall the game using the new port update in the Porting Kit game library.

Changes:
– Fix regression for WS11 Engines. Will work now on Catalina OS 10.15.x and up
