Breath of Fire IV for Mac

Tonight a very popular good old game has been added to the Porting Kit database! Well…the title already exposed the secret: it’s Breath of Fire IV for Mac! After long and costly fighting between the Fou Empire in the west and an alliance of countries in the east, both sides exhausted all their strength and resources. With no other alternative, the two powers agreed to an armistice. One year later, Princess Elina vanished. She had been traveling in the east from town to town, exploring battlegrounds and visiting war veterans. Her trail vanished in a small town near the front line. Nobody knew her whereabouts!

About the Port:
The game is based on Direct3D so it it works both on Intel Macs as on Apple Silicon Macs (I tested it myself with a an M4 Macbook Pro with 24GB RAM/VRAM), when you at least are on Mac OS 12 Monterey or higher Tested the game on my M1 Apple Silicon Macbook Pro and works in my tests.

Porting Kit GOG Install Instructions:
– Make Sure you have Porting Kit installed on your Mac
– Make sure you logged in into GOG integration in Porting Kit (GOG account tab -> Login):
– If not: – Make sure you download the “Offline backup setup files” of Breath of Fire IV from GOG into your download folder.
– Search the game in “all games” or “GOG Source” database.
– Click “Install” (Then next, next, you know the drill).
– Porting Kit will Install the GOG.com version of Breath of Fire IV
– After install of the port, click exit to finish the installation process.
– Click play to start the game!

Important widescreen fix:

In order to play the game in widescreen do this: after install launch the game once and then close the game. Then go to “more” => open c: => users => Wineskin => appdata => roaming => frontier => RTC3 => open the “options.txt” and add the line “Resolution 1400 900” (without quotes) save and run the game again in full screen this time.
