“Manual” bugfix Steam downloads

Update:
Manual fix doesn’t works either anymore because of an update of Steam. So we are dependent on the fix of Codeweavers which they already implemented in Crossover. So Porting Kit users have to wait for the fix in the release of the new engine of CX25.1. which will be released in the near future. For the ones who cannot wait can use Crossover and buy it or use the trial of 30 days to use it until we have the new engine available as well in Porting Kit.

===============================

Here a quick heads-up regarding if you run into the well known steam-downloads bug which causes steam downloads to download unto to a small percentage (say 9% for example) and then stops. A workaround in that case is to quit steam and restart and then it continues a couple of percent and then stops again. This is in many cases an time consuming process, especially for big/large games.

This is a known “msync” bug which has been fixed already in the latest update of Crossover (promocode: “bridgeover23” gives an discount of 25%) Luckily this will be fixed in the next engine coming up soon too (requires first an update of porting kit which is also in the making but might take a little while). In the meantime there is also a MANUAL fix!

Do the following steps to apply the. manual fix for the steam ports:
– In Portingkit go to the settings to the specific steam port
– Click “Launch wineskin app”
– Click advanced
– Click the “options” tab
– Deselect the option “Mach Semaphore-based Synchronisation”

Close wineskin and try the steam-port again and download should now work properly again. So the main final fix follows later. until that time (will be a new post) this manual fix is the way to go.

  1. Hey! I tried the manual fix and it didn’t seem to work :( It still stays stuck at 99% even after clearing all caches and uninstalling the game. Anyone else getting this issue?

  2. In my case I solve it by using the Sikarugir Creator with the engine WS11Wine10.0, don’t know if it is possible to use it in porting kit.

  3. download the game via steam console (use console to set os to windows). copy all the downloaded files. open up your porting kit steam instance, drop the files in your instance’s C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common folder. this is how i’ve been installing/updating my games and it’s worked for me!

  4. @nekator I used depot downloader, but steam isn’t recognising the files. Do you have any tips? I’m not sure if the folder name and location is correct.

  5. How can we still install the WINE package for this game? We found a way to download the files via the Steam console and move them manually. However, I believe we still need to install the WINE environment for the game to work. At the moment, I don’t see how this can be done since it appears to be disabled. Please help!

  6. @floatmyboat

If you access the game page through portingkit website, then you can enable the disabled page.

I did this in combination with downloading files manually through steam console and transferring over. Worked.

One thing to watch out for, I had to repeat the download and move across twice as it needed an immediate update. Also, you need to also move the manifest file.

    Hope this helps.

  7. im new with all that Wine stuff, i just wanted to download geometry dash. I followed the instructions but every time I click download, it just says smth like content not available or content server not available…and i let it run last night and it managed to download to 99% and when I restarted I was able to click play finally, but then it said smth like: an error has occurred while launching content not available: no download source. can someone please help me out?

  8. Paul, you need any kind of help (donations, etc) to work on the update? May be we can do something as a community

  9. guys can we just stop whining (pun not intended), Paul will get to it when he has the time to get to it. in the mean time why not try some of the hacks above or try to look for other means and maybe share them here for the community?

  10. Crossover works decently well for AOE2 DE and other steam games. You can get a 14 day trial for free w/o putting anything in besides an email. You may be able to get multiple free trials with different emails until the problem is sorted.

  11. For some games you can try to download the game with a Windows PC. Then copy the game from steamapps/common folder into your wrapper’s steamapps folder and copy the appmanifest.acf file from the steamapps folder as well. It worked for AOE2DE for me.

Unfortunately if the game gets an update you’ll have to do the process again. AOE2DE gets updated by the devs quite often.

  12. you can just open the steam console and use a command to force it to download the windows version and from there copy it into the wrapper follder with the acf file, at least that worked for me

  13. ^what was the exact command that you used in steam console. I am getting issues with the ones I am using. Did you also create any new files or reorganize it differently in the porting kit steamapp/AoE2De files?

  14. @sSteamCmdForcePlatformType windows
    app_install AppIdHere
look for the id of ur game on steamdb.info
    the folders are the same

  15. thanks, I finally figured it out with that and chatgpt. i figured out that you need to update the appmanifest file for it to recognize it.

  16. Hi Paul,

I found a workaround for playing my games at least. Before launching Steam, I just turn off my wi-fi. That way it goes into offline mode and I can play any game in the deck.

Otherwise the download won’t stop and I won’t be able to play my games. Hope it helps some other peeps on here.

  17. Hey fellas,

I found another workaround for corrupted download issues that might be easier to implement. I enabled “Game File Transfer over Local Network” in steam settings -> downloads and instead of the stalled downloads from steam servers, the download completed successfully really quickly from my PC (with the same game installed) and it extracted and ran perfectly. I even re-enabled mach semaphore sync in the winetricks settings. This workaround worked for “Deep Rock Galactic”.

  18. I use wine classic next to portingkit. wine classic downloads the game but you obviously have to fight through a lot of issues to get the games running. I instead copy the downloaded files from wine c:/../steamapps/common over to portingkit steamapps and then proceed to run through portingkit. Has worked for AOE2 DE and couple of other games

  19. Hi Machineglow, thanks for that great tip of transferring Steam game installs via my Windows (gaming) PC. I’ve been struggling with the various workarounds for a while but couldn’t get Satisfactory to work (others were ok). I like to run Windows games on my MacBook Pro M4 Max when traveling and your Steam game install tip works great! I actually unknowingly had those Steam transfer settings turned on but never thought to run up both MAC and PC at the same time.
