Sword of the Samurai released for the Mac!

Worthy to mention in a blogpost is the yesterday released good old game Sword of the Samurai. This good old DOS game for which some people say “the spiritual father” of the Shogun Total War series. Almost everything that is part of TW is here. Real-Time combats, management of family lineage through generations. The only thing lacking is the action parts (sword combat and infiltration). A real muts-buy for every strategy fan and japanese history enthusiast, if you don’t mind the 16-color graphics.

In Sword of the Samurai, you will be part of the culture of feudal Japan, and you must learn to live by its rules. To succeed as a samurai, you must think like the samurai. Learn when to leave your sword in its sheath, when to draw it – and what to do with it once it’s drawn. You will fight duels, lead troops on the battlefields, and defend your family against assassins and kidnappers. If you are courageous and honorable, you may advance to become the head of your clan, and warlord of your province. If you master diplomacy and generalship, and outmaneuver your rivals, you may even become Shogun – absolute ruler of Japan. But remember that in all cultures power corrupts – and those who seek absolute power don’t always play by the rules.

7th Legion for the Mac!

Now all should be working fine, we can go back at the task at hand! I will start as first new game post on the new site with 7th Legion! 7th legion is an old strategy game which has been re-released on GOG.com a few weeks back. The game looks a bit like the basic strategy games as Red Alert and Earth 2150, and is quite enjoyable to play. Enjoy the game!

Centuries of reckless consumption and overpopulation had brought the Earth’s ecosystem to the brink of collapse. In desperation, governments of the world developed an interstellar Evacuation Program granting exit passes only to the most privileged segments of society. The poor and common were left behind to perish. Now centuries later, the “Chosen” have decided to return to Earth and assume control. But there’s a catch – the 7th Legion is waiting with a powerful and fiery “welcome home” BBQ planned in their honor.

Zork Grand Inquisitor for the Mac!

Do you know the old Zork games? Well, once you step through the door to Zork, you leave the world of arcade games and trite fantasies behind and enter the dimension of your imagination. Every plot, every puzzle, every personality has been honed and perfected to make your experience uniquely realistic and involving. Zork Grand Inquisitor, is and adventure game where you have to solve puzzles and  laugh your ass out with all the funny things implanted in the game. I created a Wrapper and a CrossTie for the game. For the CrossTie you have to wait one more day, will be approved tomorrow. I couldn’t find a descent game play trailer so I put in a screenshot. Enjoy!

Zork: Grand Inquisitor is the last installment of the famous Zork adventure series. It uses the same formula as its predecessor: first-person perspective, 360 degree camera rotation, pre-rendered backgrounds, and live actors. Humor and comical pop-culture references accompany you throughout the entire game and guarantee that you will never get bored. So if you are looking for a not so serious oldschool adventure then this gem is for you.

Populous 3: The Beginning for the Mac!

Today Populous is the game focus. Populous and Populous 2 are already available for the Mac on GOG.com. Populous 3 – The Beginning was the only Populous game not ported yet. So here it is! Because of Populous 3, I made a game page for Populous and Populous 2 on this website as well. The games can be found now under the strategy section of the game ports. Enjoy!

In the third part of the Populous series, you control your shaman and the tribe of her followers in a difficult quest to conquer all 25 planets of a star system and ascend to godhood. For the first time in the series, the world is presented in true 3d, which at the time amazed both the players and the gaming press. The level of control you exert over your followers also takes you to a new level: you can order individuals or groups to perform certain tasks like gathering resources, constructing buildings, or attacking your enemies.

Today we have Space Simulator game in store! If you know Freespace, then you will surely enjoy Freespace 2! Made as well a Wrapper as a CrossTie for this game. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky for the Mac

To make the STALKER series complete, here S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky! I made both a Wrapper as a Crosstie for the game because there is a non-steam version on GOG.com. Game worked just as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, quite well although a good videocard (512mb) is recommended. Check out the GOG Trailer below to see the gameplay.

Year 2011. Five years passed since the Second Disaster, which eclipsed the events of April 1986. The Zone is shaken by frequent and powerful blowouts, which move anomaly fields, opening new routes to previously inaccessible locations. Stalker factions fight for the new territories and key points. A lot of stalkers die, but newbies keep on arriving.

Banished for the Mac! (Update)

Update: Its seemed that the Wrapper worked fine on Nvidia but not on AMD Radeon and Intel Graphics Macs. Fixed that part now with the latest wrapper update of Banished! Works now on Intel Graphics, AMD Radeon and Nvidia! Enjoy!!

On request and just out for 2 days: Banished! Build a city with any layout you want with almost no restriction on when, what, and where you build. Keep the population happy and healthy by providing them with food and warm shelter. Watch the town grow as you assign 20 different jobs to build buildings, grow food, craft tools and clothing, and more! The game doesn’t work in Crossover yet so I made Wrapper for it. Crossover will stay primary on the site, but that doesn’t mean I won’t make any Wrappers now and then :). I won’t make for each game a new video anymore, only when some specific instructions are needed. Normally its just very basic: extract –> install game into wrapper –> set the start executable and play! If you don’t own the game yet, I strongly advise you to buy Banished on GOG.com which is DRM free. Check out the trailer below to get introduced to the game!

Banished is a city building game where you control a group of exiled people who are restarting their lives in the wilderness. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland. The townspeople work, build, get older, have children, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and fed are essential to making a successful town grow. Any structure can be built at any time, provided that your people have collected the resources to do so.

STALKER: Call of Pripyat for the Mac

For today I have a very popular game as a surprise: STALKER: Call of Pripyat! If you don’t own the game yet, I strongly advise you to buy STALKER: Call of Pripyat on GOG.com which is DRM free. The Gamersgate version of the game contains TAGES DRM which will fail to start. The game works quite nice on 512mb GFX card altough the game works in Directx9 mode only (still great graphics of course) because Directx 11 isn’t working in Wine yet. I created a CrossTie for the GOG.com version and works quite nice using Crossover! I rated the game “Silver” for now because of the Directx 11 and the game will be quite slow if you have all graphics settings on high. I played the game for about an hour on medium settings and high resolution and that worked fine for me. Check out the PC trailer below to get introduced to the game.

The events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat unfold shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. Having discovered about the open path to the Zone center, the government decides to hold a large-scale military “Fairway” operation aimed to take the CNPP under control

Doomdark’s Revenge released for the Mac!

Today another Mac game is released on GOG.com. Doomdark’s Revenge is a revamped version of the 1985 game, retaining its gameplay and graphical style, just adding some more intuitive interface and high resolution graphics. At its core, however, this is the exact same title that enthralled the imagination of many gamers almost three decades ago. The turn based game mixes elements of an adventure with a robust, well-written storyline, an epic wargame in which you manage and command large armies, and a role-playing game with much focus on exploration of the game’s incredibly detailed landscape. You already slew the evil Witchking Doomdark, now you’re up against his wicked daughter, Shareth, the Witchqueen of Carnage. This is no easy task, as the sequel introduces a whole new level of independence to the NPCs whose help you need to complete it, and beating the game in any of the possible ways will prove quite a challenge. Let one of the oldest, yet greatest stories ever told in a computer game unfold before you!

Because of it’s outdated graphics, I won’t create a seperate game page of this one, but it is still worth making a blogpost of it. This way the people who do love this kind of games, know it is there and can get it from GOG.com. Check the trailer below for the gameplay of old times.

Eschalon: Book III released for the Mac!

Last Friday there was another game released for the Mac on GOG.com! Eschalon: Book III brings the trilogy to a climactic end as you seek to uncover the mystery of your past, the secrets of the Crux stones, and who the Orakur really are. You’ll traverse miles of virtual wilderness and dungeons, filled with secrets and danger, in an unparalleled role-playing experience designed to feel like a true pen-and-paper RPG. Eschalon: Book III is now available for Mac on GOG.com so if you love fantasy RPG games, then this one might be worthy to check out.

Book III is not a dumbed-down “RPG for the masses”. Rapid button clicking won’t save you here. Eschalon pays honor to the greatest RPGs of the past, with unlimited character development options and freedom to explore the world as you wish. The difficulty of the game does not scale to your character.
