Lots of wrapper updates!

Lots of wrapper updates!

There have been lots of game updates on GOG.com lately which in some cases also involves of updated installer files. This may cause some unexpected porting kit messages in the install process which you not may expect normally that it asks to choose your own setup file. So those changes are covered, but hinders the automatic process that Porting Kit automatically opens the setup file for you. So for some of those cases I made an update of these games so Porting Kit will automatically recognize the offline backup setup installer files again. Because of this, I could also look into the ports itself to see if newer engines improve the performances or bug fixes. Below the results.

Enjoy the updates of the game! If you run into installation problems with any game, let us know using the contact form! Then we can fix it. We need you guys for this :) Thanks!

Porting Kit New/updated Badge fixed!

Porting Kit New/updated Badge fixed!

Maybe you noticed, maybe you didn’t, but Porting Kit normally should show new ports with a “New” badge and updated ports with a “update” badge. This was because of an issue on the PortingKit.com  website disabled and it didn’t upload any new ports as well. This has been addressed and fixed yesterday! So from now on you will see the new updates in the “Latest” section on the “Rankings” tab as well as attended.

Enjoy the site and updates:)!

Porting Kit updates past weeks!

The past 3 weeks development isn’t standing still. We work hard to keep games and the application up-to-date so you will have a better user game experience and to keep the games ported working when games on Mac OS are getting updated. We managed for the people who are already under the wipe of Mojave, to have a quite nice user experience (not perfected yet because of needs of some Wineskin changes) but we are getting further and further. So when you have Mojave accidently installed, then make sure you update to the latest Porting Kit version for the best performance.

Porting Kit 2.9.544 (17/11/2018):

  • Fixed: URL requests error codes now are detected properly
  • Improved: Google Analytics reports now have a timeout of 2 seconds instead of 10
  • Fixed: While creating custom ports, macOS versions compatible with Mac Driver should have it selected by default
  • Improved: Google Analytics reports in case of fail while connecting to the server
  • Fixed: Trailers now should always load properly
  • Added: recommendations for eGPUs
  • Improved: Google Analytics report of connection failure
  • Improved: PK is now prepared to deal with the fact that Mojave doesn’t work well with X11 ports

Wrapper updates!

Wrapper updates!

Things change all the time and we try to keep up with all the changes. Sometimes things change while we not know of it, and then your help and informing us is important. So that’s why I could fix a few things. For example I updated Port Royale 2 and Arcanum. below the changes:

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura:
There seems to be an massive update of Arcanum, so I updated the Wrapper and works great now :)

 Port Royal 2
The setup file of Port Royale 2 has been changed by GOG.com so it causes porting Kit to ask for a location of the exe file. I changed the setup file and now Porting Kit will detect the setup file automatically so the GOG.com offline backup installer will automatically start.

Check those updated games out in Porting Kit! Enjoy!

GOG.com 10 years anniversary sale + free Shadow Warriors 2!

GOG.com posted this yesterday: Ten years is a touching affair, a rare achievement for a gaming platform – so we’ve prepared a week of celebrations with games and freebies! Here’s what’s in store:

We wouldn’t be here without our community – so for the first time ever you got to choose the game for our Anniversary Giveaway! The three nominees were: Firewatch, Shadow Warrior 2, and SUPERHOT. After a fierce battle, the charming Mr. Wang eliminated the competition and Shadow Warrior 2 is now FREE until October 6th, 2:15pm UTC.

If you voted for the other two, don’t fret – SUPERHOT is 50% off and Firewatch 75% off until the end of the sale.

Don’t update to Mojave (yet)!

Don't update to Mojave (yet)!

As you guys may all be aware of is the 64bit only change Apple want’s to push forward in not all to long. We hope Mojave will be the break before the real push to 64bit only. However, although Wineskin (that’s the wrapper part) stopped working properly in the latest update of Mojave. Luckily there is already a fix, but that part is not implemented yet in Porting Kit. This all will be done shortly, but to be on the safe side, wait until we are fully ready to prevent all kind of misery.

We are always working hard to make the best of Porting Kit so you can enjoy your Windows games on your Mac :) We have to stick together and endure the things to come and try to keep standing as long as we can and try to find a workaround/solution before the next OS After Mojave (10.15). Support us, help us, and we will get through! Thanks guys!

Some more Wrapper updates

Some more Wrapper updates

It’s very busy lately, But I manage some maintenance on a few ports after getting a few e-mails about them. As you know we always try our best in our spare-time to improve porting Kit and the ports of course, which is a continuous progress.

Starting with Zork Grand Inquisitor. That game seemed to be changed from DOS version to SCUMVM version in the GOG.com catalog. So this meaned for me to change the installer file and startup flags for the SCUMVM version. Working lovely now.

Then we have Giants – Citizen Kabuto, which had an issue because GOG change the setup file name, so I changed that for the game, this also counted for Mount and Blade – Fire and Sword. So fixed that issue as well.

Enjoy the games!

Porting Kit Tips: Screen Capture!

I am doing a series of tip posts to learn more about Porting Kit and all it’s features. I already did the first tutorial about themes. If You missed that one, you can read about that tip up here…

Today we discuss the special feature: Screen capture! You maybe wouldn’t expect that feature in Porting Kit, but we have it implanted indeed. You can find the feature under the Porting Kit menu –> Tools –> Start Screen Capture. It will then ask for a location to save the screen capture. Then Select a nice spot, choose if you want to have the mouse cursor on your capture and in what resolution you want to capture. When you made your mind start a Porting Kit game to capture or anything else you had in mind. Yes this also means “non” Porting Kit stuff ;)

When you are finished. You can stop the screen capture using the “Stop Screen Capture” option in the Porting Kit –> tools menu or a more aggressive method with a combination key of cmd + q (closes Porting Kit as well). Then check the results in your where you saved the screen-capture.

Enjoy this cool feature in Porting Kit! If you have more cool stuff you want in Porting Kit, or you have good Suggestions, then please let us know so we can make Porting Kit even better then it already is! Use the “Contact” feature in Porting Kit to reach us.
