Portingkit Frequently asked Questions…

Yes! The Portingkit BETA is a fact now. But what are the plans? What to expect? How fast will the adding of the games go? Well this post will answer some of the questions:

Cool! Portinkit is a fact. What will happen to the game pages and the existing wrappers?
Well, the specific game pages and game posts of the games added to the Portingkit will stay the same, only the link to the Wrapper will change to the website. The wrappers of the games which are added to the Portingkit, will be put offline because there is no need for it anymore because the free Portingkit will create it for you automatically.

I don’t have the or Gamersgate version of the game will the Portingkit still work.
Of course will it still work, the Portingkit will popup with a window to choose the setup file manually. however, the Gamersgate/ games proposed are tested, auto-detected and advised to use. other versions may contain copy protection or download clients not tested and may in that case fail to work.

I cant see the videos on the “News” Tab ( website) it says blocked content.
Update to the latest Flashplayer and restart Portingkit and it will be fixed.

I can’t still “Rank” any games in the Portingkit.
Correct, this functionality will be added soon.

How fast will filling the database go? And what about the Steam games?
Well, I will try to do at least 5 a day. I may get some help from some other people as well. About the Steam game Wrappers. Yes they will be added as well on short term. in the end all the game ports on will be added into the Portingkit.

Will there come more video tutorials?
Of course, all on short term.

Introducing + BETA release of the Portingkit!!!

Yes! It’s finally here after some setbacks and things which needed to be fixed. We (Paul the Tall and Vitor Marques) wanted to be sure the Portingkit was technically in good shape before releasing it. Of course it is far from finished, but the basis is there and ready to host hundreds of games! Oh my dear friends, I am thrilled to show you this awesome product because this will save me tons of file-hosting space and bandwidth traffic :), and for you a nice overseeing application which needs almost no work at all in order to play all your favorite games, because the Portingkit will do all the hard work for you!

Lets first start about what the Portingkit actually is. Well, the Portingkit is an application which will work a bit like Steam/Uplay/Origin, which has the news tab (my blog page), and a library tab which contains 2 sub-tabs called “Local” “server”. The library tab is where all the fun will happen. In the Local Tab you can find all game ports which you have in your application folder. The Portingkit will recognize all the Wineskin ports even not created by us! Every game/program in this particular tab you can launch using the “play” button and it will simply launch the port! Then we have the Server Tab: This contains all the actual ports which are added in the Portingkit and can be simply installed using the download link. Most of them are commercial games and still needs the original Windows game to get installed. Even in that the Portingkit helps out. It will ask if you own the game and if not, it will redirect you to the specific game page where you can purchase it, simply as that. The Portingkit will recognizes the setup files in the download folder so it will automatically start the installation and create the game port. When the port creation is finished it will be visible in your local tab and can be launched from there using the “play” button. It is just awesome :P! You can also rate a specific port (will be soon be implemented) so you can rate the game with your video card. This is handy to know if a game works on for example an Intel Iris Mac yes or no.

Then there are a couple of more tabs: “Rankings”, where the top 10 ranked games will be found, “community” community stuff, “FAQ” for all the frequently asked questions and support videos can be found (needs still to be added) and the “Donate” tab to support our hard work. Those tabs will be filled through the next coming Portingkit releases. So in short, Portingkit will be the only app you need in the future for you Mac gaming!

The portingkit will have its own website hosted by me called: where you can download the application and read more about what it does. I made also an introduction video of the release of the program. Check it out and enjoy this new awesome application!!

Merry Christmas to you all!

Merry Christmas to all visitors and game port users!

Video Crimzon Clover: World Ignition + Review

Here as promised, the video tutorial of Crimzon Clover: World Ignition. I will also do a little review of this game as well, just as I did with Wings Remastered a few days back. Crimson Clover is Vertical Shooter you know of on arcade machines. Lots of action, lots of explosions and lots of bonuses. I played this game on my Nvidia 640M iMac with Mavericks and on my Intel HD 4000 Macbook air. On both systems it works flawless with about 60 fps (see also video).

The controls are the z (fire) .x (rockets) .c (destruction wave) .v (menu) + cursor keys to control you space ship. You can choose from 3 space ships, all with its own advantages. I played about and hour (about 2x 30 minutes on both Macs) and I have to say it wasn’t disappointing. I normally don’t play this kind of games, but while playing and getting loads of points and bonuses, it keeps you playing to see what end boss will appear now? Also the joy of ending a level gives a good feeling that you were victorious. There are 2 modes you can play (novice and arcade), but I especially liked the novice mode, maybe because thats more easy :P. Another nice feature is the “replay”, where you watch how good or bad you played the specific level. All in all this game gets 5 of 5 stars from me, because it simply works as attended in all ways. Enjoy!

Wine 1.7.33 released!

Another new Wine version is out on WineHQ since yesterday! The wine version is now build in an engine and will be available in “Winery“. Winery is a program where you can build wrappers with, and is available on the Wineskin website. I used Winery to build all my Wrappers for this website. The engine itself isn’t available in winery yet, but doh123 will add it as soon as he can. There are some extra mshtml improvements and even more DirectWrite functions fixes. See more details below and on WineHQ.

You can change the wine engine in existing Wrappers doing: Right-click Wrapper –> show package content –> wineskin –. advanced –> tools –> change engine –> change it to the latest engine you downloaded, in this case 1.7.33.

The Wine development release 1.7.33 is now available.

What’s new in this release:

  • Support for copy/paste commands in MSHTML.
  • Some more font support in DirectWrite.
  • Better handling for loss of focus in Direct3D windows.
  • Several more API Sets DLLs.
  • Various bug fixes.
