DOS games works great in Crossover!

DOS games works great in Crossover!

Another cool thing about Crossover I found out in  Crossover is DOS games! Where I coulnd’t figure out in Winesskin to make those games work and used Boxer Instead, you can run the games simple as that in Crossover. I haven’t tested all DOS games of course, but the ones I tested from GOG.com are working great! The cool thing is, after installation Crossover will nicely add the shortcuts to the Crossover menu and you can simply launch the game from the menu or make an “alias’ and move it to your game folder to launch it from there! So I will add some more DOS games coming time as well! As a start I added 2 new DOS port tonight: Jagged Alliance Deadly Games and Torins Passage!

The links below are links to the Game pages which include the direct-links to the CrossTies on Crossover. Crossover needs to be pre-installed in order for those CrossTies to work. Check out this video how simple CrossTies work! Enjoy!

Wine 1.7.9 Released!

Wine 1.7.9 Released!

Wine 1.7.9 is released just now! Altough my primairy focus is not Wineskin anymore but Crossover, Wine is still the sourcecode where it is all about and will be iplanted in Crossover soon as well. And if you have of games and want to see if there are some improvements with the latest WineEngine then this news might be worthwhile. The wine version will be buildt in an engine and will be available in “Winery“. Winery is a program where you can build wrappers with, and is available on the Wineskin website. I used Winery to buildt all my wrappers for this website. Because the new Wine is just released, the engine itself is not available yet in Winery, but will be added soon by Doh123 (Wineskin developer). here is quite some things done in this release especially by Stefan Dorsinger to fix memory issues in Wine. Besides that there are some D3D and Mac driver improvements. See more details below and on Winehq.

The Wine development release 1.7.9 is now available.

What’s new in this release:

  • Improved window moving/resizing in the Mac driver.
  • Some DirectDraw palette fixes.
  • Reduced code duplication between C++ runtime versions.
  • Various bug fixes.

New About Page: “About Crossover”

There might be some confusion about the program Crossover. So I made an about page of this program which will explain the basics of the program. There you will find answers about: What it is, what advantages it has, what CrossTies are and how to obtain it.

Hope it will shine a light about the program and gives you insight about what it is. Remember that there will be a lot of  crossties and video tutorials coming up which will make your life very easy about Mac porting using Crossover.

Check out the new Crossover about page up here…

Steam Wrapper fix

Steam Wrapper fix

I wanted to make a seperate post for a work around for the Steam client issue with the latest update.  Thanks John for the config file tip!

It is possible to stop Steam updating to the latest version. To do this create a text file containing the following text: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable
Save the file as ‘Steam.cfg’ and put it in the steam folder of your wrapper doing: rightclick the specific Steam wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> navigate to the Steam folder and (re)place the file into the Steam wrapper and then launch Steam.. This needs to be done before you run Steam for the first time. If Steam had already updated itself then use a backup wrapper if you have one. So again this fix will only work if the Steam client isn’t updated yet.

Don’t want to redownload the whole game again? Rightclick wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder to the desktop and trash the old wrapper. Then Rightclick the “new” wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder into the Steam folder + the steam.cfg file and then launch the wrapper and you should be able to play without re-downloading anything again. We will meanwhile update the Steam wrappers where possible.

Fixed some links…

Fixed some links...

Someone mentiond that the link of Castle of Illusions didn’t work. So I checked, and he was right. I saw zero downloads in the statistics, so I fixed the link I then ran with a quick eye to some of the pages of the links and saw some more links which needed a fix (zero downloads). Below some more of them. So if you run in any link which doesn’t work, simply use the contact form (use the alternate emailadres for now), and sent me an email with the question to fix the link so I can do so.

James Cameron’s Avatar the game
Sherlock Holmes Mummy
East India Company
Wallace and Grommit Grand Adventures

Most issues website migration solved!

Most issues website migration solved!

Good news! After a lot of trouble, the  issues (except one) of the migration are solved now!

– Forum: Is available again, so post all you things up there.
– Featured Images are displayed correctly again (fixed)
– I couldn’t upload images/screenshots anymore, is now fixed as well.
– Contactform isn’t working, it does say that the message is sent but mail does not arrive on my side. (still an issue working on it)

I keep you guys in updated about that last point. So then you know that the mails which are sent past 3 days haven’t arrived on my side. So if you are wondering why I am not answering then you know now ;) Instead I have mentioned some alternative instructions on the contact page how to reach me.

Site is up again but with some problems…(we are working on it)

As you have noticed the website is online again after 18 hours (Thank God!) However, there are still some issues. Like:

1. Featured images not visible on blog
2. Forum not reachable
3. Email/contactform not working

Those Issues are worked on. So I hope it will be resolved this weekend as well. Thanks for the understanding!

ShinyLoot joins as game sponsor on Paulthetall.com!

ShinyLoot joins as game sponsor on Paulthetall.com!

Good news, we have another game sponsor who joined the crusade. The new sponsor is ShinyLoot! ShinyLoot is a game distributor (with about 300 games at the moment) focused on especially Indie games and more, which contain no DRM or in a few cases uses a serial. They claim to be anti-DRM which is in my opinion THE way of thinking, just as GOG.com does. You can read their complete vision about it up here…. Their game collection contains Windows games from which quite a number for the Mac as well. Because they are indie focused, they have quite a number of games in their collection GOG.com and Gamersgate doesn’t have. So this is a nice extra besides Gamersgate and GOG.com. They will sponsor me as well (just like Gamersgate and GOG.com) games so I can test and use them to port those to the Mac.

I made a banner on the blog sidebar to show they are an official sponsor now. Welcome aboard ShinyLoot!
