Commandos 2 port update, Apple Silicon Compatible now!

As you already know I manually update ports where I hear that there are issues with a specific port with the Apple Silicon chip. In this case there was one with Commandos 2 (now 50% off), which has been addressed and now works. With the old engine in combination with the Apple Silicon Macs, the game would give a black screen. Now this is fixed, Apple Silicon Macs can now fully enjoy the game as well.

When you experience issues with games in the database with your Apple M1 Apple Silicon chip mac, please let us know using the Porting Kit “help” form or the “report a problem” option (more –> report a problem) in the port.

Porting Kit 5.0 Released in experimental mode!

Yeah! Awesome work of Vitor, bringing Porting Kit to Porting Kit 5.0. Its still in Experimental mode at the moment (Porting Kit preferences –> select experimental mode if you want to check it out already) and when there are no issues, then we will release it in the main branch within a few days! A lot of changes and fixes are implemented. Also a few very important ones.

Here is the list:

– Adding keyboard shortcut to Kill All Wineskin Processes
– DOSBox master wrapper should be downloaded properly
– If an app is being installed in a removable device, its creation should happen completely inside that device
– Adding warning in case CD port is being installed with no disc inserted
– Adding source ID field to Developer tab
– Now it’s possible to add the source ID of a port in its flags with ${sourceId}
– Cancel button now closes the installation window, to avoid further operations
– If the installation is cancelled, the next step shouldn’t start
Advances towards making PK Linux compatible
– Trying to avoid an undefined model in macOS
MoltenVK versions other than 1.1.6 should be handled correctly
– Organizing Wine/Wineskin naming
– Adding a default scrollbar to PK
– If an engine has no MD5 in the server, it should still be used in case it’s downloaded
– It should be possible to save the same port multiple times in the Developer tab
– Rephrased some sentences so it suits any system
– Properties window should work properly
– Adding www to the requests, to avoid issues with CloudFlare
– Refactoring the Porting Kit from Javascript to Typescript
– Multiple other bug fixes and improvements

Need help reporting issues with ports on M1 Apple Silicon.

You saw the past week some wrapper updates regarding the latest CX21.1.o Engine. Which is of course great news for many ports!

You may think, why not updating all ports with that latest engine, well, we thought and even did that for a few days finding out that this engine has for many games regressions as well. So, that did made us cautious to do that and made us switch to manual updating ports again preventing these issues. This work is quite extensive, but we also need your help letting us know if a specific port is not working with the M1 Apple Silicon Mac.

If this is the case let us know asap so we can look into it and fix it and when impossible at least update the port description with that info.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Announcing CX21.1.0 in Porting Kit!

Great news! As already hinted in the last post, here the official announcement for the CX21.1.0 engine! The next post will contain some of the already arranged updates of ports! The engine has been made possible with the help and hard work of Gxenx from the Portingkit Team and the unofficial Wineskin. He is doing a tremendous job keeping things up to date and functioning also regarding Wine. So if you wanna give him a token of appreciation you can donate him directly up here…

Changes in the the CX21.1.0 contain better support for M1 apple Silicon. Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 + 2 (for M1 Apple Silicon), SimCity 4 and much more and also much better support for M1 Apple Silicon. See the changelog below:

Our big reveal for this release is much-awaited support for Grand Theft Auto V (including GTA Online) on both macOS and Linux. Starting with CrossOver 21.1, you can now run Grand Theft Auto V via either the standalone Rockstar Games Launcher or Steam.

This release is also the first to offer official support for the newly released macOS Monterey. We also added support for several games that previously did not run on macOS and fixed an issue for certain launchers that were not working on macOS with CrossOver 21 (including MicroTik The Dude)

CrossOver 21.1 includes several other fixes, including ones for the recent updates to Ubisoft Connect and Quicken that caused problems running them in CrossOver. Additionally, this release includes improvements to wined3d and an update to Wine Mono 7.

Coming time, there will be another update period for game ports. For M1 apple silicon Macs will for every game switch to the latest CX21.1.0 engine so it will benefit the best support for the M1 Apple silicon chip. This change will be done within a few days and there will be an official post about that.

Enjoy!!

Install issues ports (resolved).

Problems resolved.

======

Because of preparing Portingkit for the latest Wine Engine 21.1.0 and latest wineskin, we ran into an issue which will be addressed as soon as possible. This means that when you install a port you will run into an error mentioning: “Failed to download the Wineskin master. Wrapper download failed”. You can workaround it by downloading: Wineskin Winery, then update it, and then install the port again.

We hope to have the issue resolved today. So hold on. After this fix there will be a cool announcement ;) and a lot of work for me to do.
