Gatekeeper Security reminder Mavericks OSX!

Gatekeeper Security reminder Mavericks OSX!

I am making this post after some emails I got from users which got the message that they cannot open the specific wrapper after updating to OSX Mavericks because it is downloaded from an “unidentified developer”.

To solve this matter simply change the following setting in the security & privacy preferences on your Mac to allow applications to be downloaded anywhere. See also screenshot below. You can get to those security settings by navigating to the apple symbol in the left upper corner. Then go to preferences, and then to the “Security & Privacy” symbol/option. There you can change the setting to “anywhere”. When you changed this setting you will be able to download and open all wrappers again from my site. Sad Apple brings this confusion and is trying to create a kinda monopoly position to only download apps from the appstore or partners. In my opinion there should be an “always allow” option posibility when downloading an app, instead of blocking it straight away. I also put this matter on the FAQ  now people who run into this in the future and didn’t read this post.

Wine 1.7.5 released!

Wine 1.7.5 released!

Wine 1.7.5 is released just now! The wine version will be buildt in an engine and will be available in “Winery“. Winery is a program where you can build wrappers with, and is available on the Wineskin website. I use Winery to buildt all my wrappers for this website. Because the new Wine is just released, the engine itself is not available yet in Winery, but will be added soon by Doh123 (Wineskin developer).

Tomorrow when I will be finally home I will build an engine for myself to test some stuff out. I will be having finally access to my 2 iMacs where I do the all the gaming stuff on most of the time. There will be then 2 gameports to get (finally) started!!

What’s new in this release:

  • Support for registration-free COM using activation contexts.
  • Improved support for simulated bold fonts.
  • Unicode data updated to Unicode 6.3.
  • Better support for typelib registration on 64-bit.
  • Various bug fixes.

The New iMacs and Retina display Macbooks! What to choose?

The new line of Macbooks with Retina Display and iMacs are available now! But what is new and what is important to know when buying one considering gaming and wrappers. The most important and perhaps main thing which effects gaming is the graphics card and bridge which is used. Well lets check the Macbooks first shall we? The main change is the graphicscard. I am quite fan of AMD or Nvidia, but Apple choose for as start models the past few years for the Intel Graphics card. In my opinion worst choice for gaming. The past showed that quite a number of games simply don’t work properly with Intel graphics cards: like Medieval 2 Total War. The main problem are the video drivers or the game doesn’t supporting the card. I think especially with some older games this might conflict with eachother. Anyway, the new Retina display Macbooks have an Intel Iris Graphics card. Which is what in a GFX card review of Gizmodo calls “Awesome!”. They say, i quote: Intel’s Iris graphics are going to provide a 2x improvement to 3D performance over Intel’s current HD 3000, and HD 4000 that are wrapped into Ivy Bridge cores. Which is of course course good news! However, still the question remains: How does older games work with the card? How good are the graphical drivers? That it seems to work great in tests with BioShock Infinite, doesn’t say anything of other and especially some older games… The real physical tests will give the real answers. If someone already has the new Macbook with Intel Iris Graphics cards, he maybe wants to share his experiences with that card in this topic?

Second, the new iMac! I was quite sad to see they are even equiping the new basic iMac with only that (onboard) Intel Iris graphical card instead of an Nvidia or AMD Radeon card. This means, if you want to have an iMac with a Nvidia graphics card you have to pay $200 more, which will give you an 1 GB GeForce GT 750M, what in my opinion is a straight yes and maybe must, in comparation with that Intel Iris Graphicscard which only has 128mb memory on it and the rest it will eat from the physical memory…thats why I am happy that the basic model comes with standard 8GB of internal Memory.

Conclusion: Intel Iris graphics card, should be in improvement, but time will tell the real thing about that one. When having a Retina Display Macbook it should be at least an massive performance boost, so thats a very good thing in comparation with a Intel HD 3000 or HD 4000. For iMacs I would defintly skip the basic model and go for $200 more expensive but more safe side, with the 1 GB Nvidia  graphics card.

Feel free to share your experiences in this topic. THE Mac gaming Website! THE Mac gaming Website!

I want to share in this post my vision for the coming years; to become THE Mac gaming website on the internet! How I want to achieve that? Well, I want to create a massive database of Mac games (free and commercial) and Mac game ports. Also I will try to be a supplier of all news and info concerning Mac’s, OSX,  games and Wine/Wineskin.  All this should be the basis of a place where you can find all games and news for your Mac and where to discuss things about gaming on your Mac. This also means there will be a massive increase of game posts of existing free & commercial Mac games as well, to enlarge the game database on the site, so people can find all their favorite games. No more looking around to find games for your Mac, should be the main place to go and be :D

The website will be added all kind of new features like a login possibility on the site, rating, game search and much more.  This will be implanted through time with some mean features already very soon. Now the site is launched and after tidying it up some more and when I fixed the last remaining stuff, there will be some volunteers recruting as well. Those people will be granted rights to create news posts and such, so we can act really like a mac game community.

To also achive that, spread the word about on forums to friends who have a Mac and so on! Hope you all share the vision and that you want to part of it! Thanks guys!

Dark Matter released for the Mac!

We have a new Mac game released on and Gamersgate as well. It is called “Dark Matter” and an action thriller game.

Dark Matter is a 2.5D side-scrolling survival thriller game, set in a derelict spaceship besieged by a sinister alien presence, and infested with deadly parasites. As the Ensign, you must explore fetid hallways and abandoned facilities, scavenging for parts and blueprints, expanding your arsenal to up to four deadly weapons and freely customize each to fit your combat style against intelligent, reactive enemies. Dark Matter delivers a hard-hitting take on the survival thriller genre in deep space, with a heavy emphasis on tactical combat and exploration.

I made a game page for it on the site as well up here…

First things first…

First things first...

Now the new site is up, I need to get stuff working properly first. Lot of links are still linking to the old website due WordPress not using “.html” in the end of the page. You will also notice there are a few dozen of games taken out of the gamelist (which were very old) and which will be re-added coming weeks. I will notify on the site what has been re-added and such.

Because they are laying new tiles on the 1st floor in my real home I am a little bit limited in my technical equipment… So until Saturday (then it will be finished) the new ports burst will be restrained a bit, and will massivly start again when I am in full control of all my gear.

Other thing: Posting reactions, how the heck does that work now right? Well you can use the text baloon on the post to add a comment/reaction. All kind of new features like, being able to login on the site and other stuff will be implanted as well through the time.

Last, and not least, please let me know the speed of the site as well and other stuff you run into by browsing the site. Thanks in advance!
