Close Combat 4 – Battle of the Bulge for Mac

Great news! Close Combat 4 – Battle of the Bulge for Mac is added to Porting Kit! The game series have been released day-before-yesterday, so I pushed other stuff away, and started to port these series. I tested the first three (Normandy, Russian front and Battle of the Bulge), from which I managed to port the last two (the others I still need to look at). So here is the second post for Close Combat 4 – Battle of the Bulge. Both games works great although in 800×600 resolution only and you have to disable in-game videos to prevent trouble. So make sure to de-select that in the game launcher and start the fun!

Install is simple:
1. Get Porting Kit or Crossover if you don’t have it yet.
2. Then download the GOG.com setup file from Close Combat 4 from GOG into your download folder.
3. Then in Porting Kit search the game in the library –> server tab and click install.
4. After installation of the game, “exit” the GOG installer.
5. Click “Play” to start the game! Have fun!

Game Description:
December, 1944 – World War II is in full swing, with the Allied armies piercing their way into Europe. Their extended position leaves them vulnerable to a German offensive strike. With crucial supplies, reinforcements and strongholds at stake, the battle fought here will be a deciding factor in the outcome of the war!

Great news! Close Combat 3 – The Russian Front for Mac is added to Porting Kit! The game series have been released yesterday, so I pushed other stuff away, and started to port these series. As promised Carmageddon TDR 2000 for Mac is added to Porting Kit! The game was gifted free this pas weekend, so now you are able to install it onto Porting Kit! When you missed the free givaway, then this classic is still discounted to only $1,99 (50% off). Enjoy!

Legacy of Kain – Defiance for Mac

On request Legacy of Kain Defiance for Mac is added to Porting Kit. Although I myself am not a fan of those kind of games, I did make the port because I own the game in my GOG.com library (received it from GOG). The game series is quite popular, so for the fans, its here!

Install is simple:
1. Get Porting Kit or Crossover if you don’t have it yet.
2. Then download the GOG.com setup files from Legacy of Kain Defiance from GOG into your download folder.
3. Then in Porting Kit search the game in the library –> server tab and click install.
4. After installation of the game, “exit” the GOG installer.
5. Click “Play” to start the game! Have fun!

Gorogoa for Mac

Gorogoa for Mac is a special puzzle game I added into Porting Kit. Gorogoa is a game that’s exquisitely crafted, not just in its single elements but the way they all combine. The visuals are fantastic and highly detailed, as you’ve probably seen for yourself, and it’s mindblowing to think one person did all of it. Check the trailer to see some visuals.

Install is simple:

More Porting Kit game updates!

And here a couple interesting Porting Kit game updates! This time for the games: Heroes 3, C&C 3 and Neverwinter Nights 2. Below a brief sum of the improvements:

– Heroes of Might & Magic 3  –> Fixed the save issue (couldn’t save games)
– C&C 3 Tiberian Wars/Kane’s Wrath –> Fixed a launch problem for certain Macs.
– Neverwinter Nights 2 –> Speed improvements.

To update the wrappers trash the old ones and re-install the games with the updated script in Porting Kit by searching the games on the library –> server tab. Enjoy the games!

Some wrapper updates! SWAT4, Empire Earth 3, Mirror Edge, Riven, The Guild 2 and Desperados 3 - Helldorado!

We don’t sit still on paulthetall/portingkit.com. We always are working on things, even when you may think it is quiet on the eastern front. We working on port updates, new game ports, test new features, working on new features etc. Past week I did same game maintenance and Vitor is . working on the new forums. Here a list of wrapper updates + changes.

  • SWAT 4  –> Fixed shader issue for some GFX cards (gave police characters dark/black color) and flashlight bug. The game works perfectly now :)
  • Empire Earth 3 –> fixed a installation bug (popup window which didn’t close by clicking on it.
  • Mirror Edge –> Updated the Winetrick sequence for “Physx”. At first the winetrick would launch after the game, which may cause confusion, now switched the winetrick to ‘before” the install of the game.
  • Riven –> Riven has been updated by GOG to a total different game version (ScummVM). So it needed another launcher (works perfect now)!
  • The Guild 2 –> failed to launch/install, thats fixed now.
  • Desperados 3 – Helldorado –> Added the GOG.com source which was released recently + added some performance improvements and shader bug fixes (characters were darker then they meaned to be).

Cedric and the Revolution for Mac

Another free adventure game: Cedric and the Revolution! This free adventure won 2 AGS awards in 2005. This is a great game, with puzzles that are difficult enough to satisfy you when you solve them, but which rarely frustrate.They also feel inventive at times, with no annoying fetch quest included. It will keep you busy for an hour or 2 to finish (or earlier if you are an experienced adventurer). Enjoy this free game, simply install and play!

Install is simple:
1. Get Porting Kit or Crossover if you don’t have it yet.
3. When using Porting Kit in Porting Kit search the game  in the library –> server tab and click install.
4. After installation of the game, “exit” the installer.
5. Click “Play” to start the game. Set the 640×400 resolution and save and play/launch! Have fun!

Game description:
Cedric and the Revolution tells the not so serious story about two elfs who want to organize a demonstration protest; however, later they have to confront completely different problems that will appear.

This is the free remake of the game (sequel). The original game Zack Mckracken: And the Alien Mindbenders is native available for Mac on GOG.com. I found this free classic when being busy on Maniac Masion. See enjoy this free game, simply install and play!

Install is simple:
1. Get Porting Kit or Crossover if you don’t have it yet.
3. When using Porting Kit in Porting Kit search the game  in the library –> server tab and click install.
4. After installation of the game, “exit” the installer.
5. Click “Play” to start the game. Set the 640×400 resolution and save and play/launch! Have fun!

Game description:
A sequel to the original Zak McKracken game.  It could have been such a nice day. Zak’s favourite movie is on, most of the work on his novel is done, and Sushi seems to have survived her long stay in the sink quite nicely. Still half asleep, Zak gropes for the mailbox key and wanders down the stairs. Wow, a lot of mail again, he thinks to himself. However, next to the usual advertising for Monolith Burger, this time it also includes a letter from the distant Bogota. Suspecting no evil, Zak opens the envelope. As he reads the first few lines, he loses control of his face…

Journey to the Center of the Earth for Mac

I already had a game page for the Crossover version here…, but now I added Journey to the center of the Earth for Mac to Porting kit as well! Game works perfectly well on even low-end Mac’s. Ariane, a determined photojournalist awakens on a beach with… pterodactyls in the sky! You are in an unknown world that exists outside of time. What will you do? Tell your story to the world? Or preserve this world from man’s greed? 

Install is simple:
1. Get Porting Kit or Crossover if you don’t have it yet.
2. Then download the GOG.com setup files from Journey to the Center of the Earth from GOG into your download folder.
3. When you own Crossover, use this CrossTie…, or when using Porting Kit in Porting Kit search the game  in the library –> server tab and click install.
4. After installation of the game, “exit” the GOG installer.
5. Click “Play” to start the game! Have fun!

Game Description:
You are somewhere above Iceland, about 150 years after the journey we’ve read about in Jules Verne’s book. Ariane, a determined photojournalist working for a big travel magazine is shooting photos from a helicopter. Just as she lands on a ledge of Snaeffels’ volcano, the helicopter is destroyed by falling rocks. Without knowing what happened to the pilot, Ariane is stranded from civilization.
