Among us for Mac

On request! Among us has ported to Mac using Porting Kit. I made a Steam wrapper for this game while its a Steam game. I tested the game for a while (multiple games) on Big sur 10.16/11.0 with no issues. On mojave I had one server drop, which throwed me back to the game menu. I made a video tutorial for the game below :) Enjoy this game on Steam!

Still For Catalina users (until Portingkit 4.0 beta gets released): Make sure SIP is disabled and that the Porting Kit app is located in your Apps/Application folder. If you want SIP to be enabled, I strongly recommend Crossover for now for the time being.

Steam install instructions:
Get Porting Kit if you don’t have it yet. Move it to your Apps folder.
– Open it. Click on the library tab. Search the game in the database on the right seach box.
– After clicking “INSTALL NOW”, Porting Kit will install the Windows Steam client automatically on your Mac.
– After the port installation, you launch the port, login with your account,
– Add the game serial (when not owned already) into your Steam game client account, download the game and play!

Game Description:
Play with 4-10 player online or via local WiFi as you attempt to prepare your spaceship for departure, but beware as one or more random players among the Crew are Impostors bent on killing everyone!

Rome Total War back in Porting Kit!

Rome Total War back in Porting Kit!

It seems that the game already didn’t work for a while for Mac users, but now I am already on adding ports of Native games which dropped support for Mac, I added Rome Total War (yeah the first one) with their expansions to Porting Kit. I tested the main game which works pretty good. It probably have some small bugs like In a battle with the camera not panning the whole map but only partly from where you are positioned. Still not really big problem but a bug. On the campaign map it just runs flawless.

We are always trying to bring as much games to the Mac and on the latest Mac OS Catalina 10.15.x and above. If you want to have a sneak peak of the latest games added to Porting Kit check the ratings tab in Porting Kit and check the “latest” column. or on the porting.com website and check “sort –> latest” to see the latest added or updated ports.

For Catalina users: Make sure SIP is disabled and that the Porting Kit app is located in your Apps/Application folder. If you want SIP to be enabled, I strongly recommend Crossover for now for the time being.

Supreme Commander 2 Catalina ready added to Porting Kit

We already have Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance added to Porting Kit, but now Supreme Commander 2 dropped support for Catalina 10.15.x, we added it back to Porting Kit so you can still play it in Catalina 10.15.x :) Game works great! so if you love strategy games and the Supreme Commander series, then that one I can recommend.

Amazing news! You loved the Call of Duty Modern Warfare games as well and cannot play them on Catalina anymore? And besides that they are working very well as well in Porting Kit :) The Steam ports can be found in Porting Kit, or go to the Porting Kit pages here… and here… and here… especially with Modern Warfare 3 I spent some time with testing (quite a gripping game :D).

Tombraider (2013) port added to Porting Kit!

Tombraider (2013) port added to Porting Kit!

As mentioned in the blog-post before we are working hard to bring as much great games which dropped support for OS 10.15.x Catalina to Porting Kit as possible so they can still be played on Mac on your Catalina OS 10.5.x Mac. Today we are proud to announce a post of the famous Tombraider (2013) port which has been added to Porting Kit :) I tested the game on my Macbook pro 2019 and works very well. IF you have a medium-end Mac, I advise to lower the in-game video settings to the ones best suitable in your gaming experience.

Torchlight and Torchlight 2 ports added to Porting Kit!

Torchlight and Torchlight 2 ports added to Porting Kit!

Yes, that’s correct. While loads of companies have dropped support for Catalina 10.15.x, we are trying making sure you can still play the games where you paid for in the past! That’s right, I have in past days done quite some hard work of reviving ports of native games which stopped working in Catalina 10.15.x. This is the first post, and quite some more are following very shortly and the list is growing of great games! But today it’s Torchlight and Torchlight 2!

I added for Torchlight 2 both Steam and GOG.com source and for Torchlight only the GOG.com version while I only own the GOG.com version of that one, but Torchlight should however also work in the same Steam wrapper as Torchlight 2. So no worries about that :)

Enjoy and we are working hard to bring as much great games to Catalina as we can.

Steam client issues after Steam update + workaround

I love GOG.com, why? It has offline installers. Yes they have GOG Galaxy, but they offer the offline setup files where we work with in Porting Kit. The Advantage? Not dependent on cliënt updates. Well, that exactly happened again with the Steam client. They change stuff which breaks things and voila, stuff is not working properly again. There has been 3 more times in the past where we had to do massive changes to make Steam games working properly again in Porting Kit.

The problem (now):
When you update your Steam client for an existing steam game port or installing a new Steam game port, you will be able to login, but the Steam window content will be black/or white… Menu’s are available, but the window content is black/white. As well for your library, the Steam Store, and other tabs.

The Workaround:
Luckily we found a few workarounds for this issue.  We start with the easiest one for the ones who have already a game installed and did the steam update. When you launch Steam you see in your top bar of your Mac screen a Steam bar icon. Right click it and select the game to launch it.

Or you can also use: “Small mode” using the “view” tab. Then it shows your library with the games you have.

The second solution counts also for new installed games:
It takes a bit extra effort, but this solution is allround. Go to te local port in porting kit after installation or when installed already. Then click “more” => “Wineskin tools” ==> “launch wineskin” => “advanced” ==> and there you find the info mentioned in the screenshot below until the text “sandbox”. The last part “-Applaunch xxxxx” is the part you need to add extra. For Age of Empires 2 HD for example that is “-applaunch 221380” (without quotes). You can find the app ID for your game in your browser when you go to the specific steam page for example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/221380/Age_of_Empires_II_2013/

So use the App ID number of the specific game to add the -applaunch flag. Make sure there is a space between the “sandbox” and the  “-applaunch” as mentioned in the screenshot. This last fix will result that when you launch the game/steam the first time, it will automatically come with the notification to install it. Accept it, and let it install the game. When installed, you can use the first fix mentioned using the Steam icon in top bar to launch it, or close steam and start it again using the play button. When you launch Steam, when the game is already installed, it will start the game instantly. When this issue is addressed in Wine, we will apply the fix in all the Steam game ports as well. We keep you informed!

Age of Empires 3 Wrapper update!

Here a quick heads-up. With Steam dropping support for WinXP and Porting Kit auto-updating the steam ports, the game didn’t work properly anymore in the Windows 7 Environment port. So I fixed that for Age of Empires 3. So everyone experiencing the issue, trash the old wrapper and reinstall the new one and start the fun! I also checked Age of Empires 2 HD and that one seems still to run fine. Besides that the launcher has some more colors then before :P, it launches fine for me after a clean install.

Get the Age of Empires 3 port up here… or find it on the server tab on Porting Kit.

Steam manual update fix Windows XP to Windows 7.

Steam officially now doesn’t support Windows XP Operating Systems. Of course this is unfortunate, but luckily not a disaster. We already made a fix in Porting Kit fixing this for when you install newly a Steam port in the database. But for the people who already installed a Steam port for quite a while now and are not in de mood for deleting and reinstalling the game in Porting Kit, we have a quick simple instruction to fix this manually.

Instruction steps:
Step 1: Go to Porting Kit on the Local Library tab and right-click the port (make sure you activate the right-click option on your magic mouse or touchpad) and in the menu go to “wineskin tools” –> “Wine Configuration”. Then on the general tab you see that the Windows version is set on “Windows XP”, change that to “Windows 7” and “Apply” and exit the Window. Now you are done and ready.

Launch your Steam app and it will update the Steam application and it should work again. The downside of the Windows 7 OS is that the steam store is not showing properly. We implanted a function to fix that part to activate the “Use wineskin unofficial wrapper” in the preferences of Porting Kit. But that requires a reinstall of the game in Porting Kit. But if you don’t need the store and want to only play the already installed game, then you are good to go.

have fun!
