Welcome on the C&C Generals + Zero Hour for Mac game page! This page contains information + tools how to port C&C Generals + Zero Hour (port of the EA APP C&C collection) in a few very simple steps (which even a noob can understand) so you can play it on your Mac just like a normal application. Check also one of the other over 1000 game ports on this website! Check the homepage to search and for latest news! You can port games using Porting Kit (free), or the commercial (more professional software) Crossover or Parallels Desktop (a very easy to use Virtual Machine with Windows 11) both have a 14 day trial period. Feel free to use the application which fits you best or use a combination of the 3 apps.

Origin Client install instructions:
– Get the C&C Ultimate collection cheap up here…
– Get Porting Kit up here…
– Then in Porting Kit search the game on the library –> server tab and click install.
– After installation of the EA App, exit the EA application first so the install process is completed.
– Click “Play” in Porting Kit to start the EA App. Login with your EA account (otherwise create one)
– After login, activate the serial and download C&C Generals + Zero Hours.
– Turn off the in-game origin before launching the game. After that play the game!

Alternatively there is also Parallels Desktop (a very easy to use Virtual Machine with Windows 11 (free trial of 14 days)) where the game will work fine as well. More info about that up here: https://www.paulthetall.com/parallels-desktop/

Game Description:
Command & Conquer: Generals is a real-time strategy video game developed by EA Pacific and released in 2003. The game takes place in an entirely separate continuity that is completely unrelated to the Red Alert universe or the Tiberium universe. It is the first Command & Conquer RTS game to use 3D graphics in-game. Later that year, it was expanded with Zero Hour.

  1. I am getting an error on my M1:

Please make sure you have DirectX 8.1 or higher installed :( Any one any idea how to resolve this?

  2. The same problem with DirectX 8.1 on Mac M1 pro. Any thought on how to resolve it? Thanks!

  3. Same here, DirectX/graphics card error on MacBook M1 pro. Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s revenge work fine though.

  4. Hi, I have the same problem with my Macbook Pro (m1 Pro). Always getting an DirectX8-Error. Does anyone any idea how to resolve it?

  5. Yes, that means you most likely have a Apple Silicion Macbook pro and not using an (non 4k) external monitor. The game is low resolution and the Latest Apple Silicon macs don’t support low resolutions anymore, which is a big challenge for us to fix using mods/patches/fixes to fix it. So for now use external display. I hope to have a fix in near future.

  6. Here is the solution for the DirectX error:

Locate your options.ini file, open it in a text editor like TextEdit.
Change the resolution to the native resolution of your computer.
I am using a MacBook Pro M1 and so my resolution is 2560 x 1600.
So, in the options.ini file, I made the following change: “Resolution = 2560 1600”
This fixed the problem. You need to make this change in both the Generals and Zero Hour options.ini files.
