Crossover Advocates Wave!

I got a IM and email from Crossover that they are totally overwelmed with requests to become and advocate. Those are hundreds a week! They cannot manage the demand. Most of them are just becoming an advocate to use the program freely and do nothing for Crossover. This is not entirely the meaning of becoming an advocate. Because I “Advertise” to become an advocate when you have no money, so you can use the program free of charge, they asked me to delete that sentence (what I did now) to avoid the overwhelming wave of  voluntering “advocates” which do nothing. Does this mean that there is no way to become an advocate anymore? No, there is, but only for the people who are really attending to dedicate time for Crossover. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  1. ¿Crossover can give us the same emulation or better than Wineskin? I don´t see new games ported with crossover like Wineskin does. :D

  2. There are actually a lot more games ported, and usually they perform better in CrossOver. A lot of newer games that I had on steam perform much better in CrossOver than they ever did in Wineskin.

  3. The past weeks all new ports are all crossover CrossTies, Also all steam games except the latest ones aren’t working anymore in the wineskin wrappers, so Crossover is required to run them now. i will focus now the coming weeks on specificly Steam games because those are in hardest need for an alternative. Tonight will be a blogpost with the latest new CrossTies I made for the Steam games the past few days.

About Wineskin vs Crossover. I know Wineskin from the start untill now and its a marvelous application, however it vulnarable. Any change in a game client like steam or even in the GOG installer or even in the Mac OSX may mess up the wrapper and make the wrapper useless. It already happened multiple times and costed me 100s of hours to fix all the wrappers. And because this is a hobby and I have a 40 hour real job as well, I simply have not the time to maintain this. Crossover on the other hand is one main application (not seperate wrappers with its own independent engine as Wineskin does) so they fix this in no time and all games work again. Because the Crossover team are Wine Developers (I am not). So as you can understand they have an advantage :P. Under the hood Crossover has many extras, but the same Wine sourcecode as Wineskin. Hope this explains a bit.

  4. Hi Paul! Just inquiring: your Crossover banner mentions a prize in dollars: $39.95, which equals €28,53. However, the actual prize in euro’s on the site of codeweavers is €48.00.

    ???

  5. Thats correct, from $39,99, thats the program with 6 months of updates. If you go to the “buy now” button and then click “more options” you see the program with 6 months updates for 40 euros and you can click add chart and you can check out for that price. I know that the euro is more worth then a dollar but this has to I think with taxes.

I remembered sending an email to Steve Job himself about why in europe the macs where more expancive if you would compare it with the money exchange. And no joke that he (or maybe assistant with acces to his mailbox) replied with explaination that it had to do with the european taxes.

    hope this helps understand it.
