Performance boost for Skyrim SE, Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt and Fallout 4 ports!
We added a performance boost ((Almost) no lag at all anymore) in a few (non multiplayer) DXVK games: Skyrim SE, Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt and Fallout 4 (last one not tested). The reason why not on multiplayer games, is that you might be banned because of the “async” which is used for it. Test results are quite impressive (although in the video below not always visible because of the video capture). I tested Witcher 3 and I experienced in a quick test no lag at all on my M1 Apple Silicon Macbook Air and Intel Macbook Pro with AMD Radeon GFX card!! Then I tested Skyrim SE, with similar results on medium settings.
These boosts seems to work for AMD Radeon Macs and Apple Silicon. If you have intel Iris, then this update might bring glitches and might not be that interesting.
If you have AMD Radeon or Apple silicon, its really worth it to delete your old port and reinstall it :) Have fun with the amateurish video testing below :P
I’ve tried the latest version for Fallout4 but it’ll quit right after the screen goes black when the game starts. The log says something about:
0424:err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.
But i believe that’s something that cannot be fixed by installing winbind on macOS, right?
What GFX card do you have?
For Apple Silicon 16GB Is required (because the game needs at least 8GB and 2 GB VRam 8+2=10)
For AMD Radeon is 8GB Ramd and at least 2GB Vram required.
I did change to an older version of DXVK, so if you have requirements of above, then please reinstall the port (delete and reinstall).
Fixed the game at least concerning booting, it still has a sound issue which I need to fix + optimization, but then at least the game can be played again…
Hm getting a crash on launch on the Witcher 3…
This is in the log:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL)

Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 4 Illegal instruction: 4
Terminating Process: exc handler [6652]
Application Specific Information:
BUG IN CLIENT OF LIBDISPATCH: Assertion failed: Block was expected to execute on queue [com.apple.main-thread]
System is Mac Studio 32 core M1 Max, 32gb RAM.
When I install Fallout 4, after starting the game from Steam, and getting the play/options/support/exit box, and clicking play on that, the screen goes black and stays that way for a long time until I run out of patience and force quit it.
I can collapse the screen and go to other apps; it isn’t a crash, though I have to “hide others” or the screen is black except for the menu bar. The wine64-preloader with the Fallout 4 logo is there in the dock. Activity Monitor shows that the main thread is using about 106% CPU (slightly variable), and the main thread has 1.22 GB memory (unchanging) but nothing seems to be happening.
I was running Fallout 4 using Crossover, and it worked OK, except there was no sound. I was hoping your version of the port would have working sound.
MacBook Pro 2019 currently running Catalina so I can use my old wired game controller. AMD Radeon 5500M, Intel UHD Graphics 630.
Any advice?
