Porting Kit works now on Mac OS 13 – Ventura!

A quick heads up. Yeah, it’s all exciting, but still kinda “beta” because not everything is tested thoroughly yet, and Mac OS 13 Ventura is still in Beta itself as well. Nevertheless, from the things I have been tested (On my Intel Based Macbook Pro), it works all the same as in Mac OS 12 – Monterey. I still need to upgrade and test my Apple Silicon based Macbook Air. Below a quick overview.

What’s has been tested?
At first, it’s good to know, that since today we removed the blockade for using Porting Kit in Mac OS 13 – Ventura. It would earlier say that Mac OS 13 is not “compatible” yet with Porting Kit, this has now been removed. Secondly I started testing Existing game ports which I installed previously, and they all seem to work just fine as they did in Mac OS 13 Monterey.

Then Installing new game ports. I tested installing a steam port and a couple of GOG.com games and they all install and run fine. Besides that I tested also some Winetricks (which are used in many of the port creations) and they (for the ones I checked) seem to work without issues as well. This all is overall a very good sign.

We still need to follow the development of Mac OS 13 – Ventura until the official release, but so far so good and no issues. If you are on Mac OS 13 Ventura as well, let me know if you are running into specific issues, then we can take a look.

  1. I’m glad Porting Kit works with Ventura. However, I do see issue starting Steam for Windows on Ventura. Have you done any testing yet? The errors I see seem to be related to CEF and they’re only present in the debug.log file… something like “Failed to set crash key” over and over.

  2. Every time I try to open the steambuild 64-bit, something would appear for an instant and then disappear right after. Does anybody know what’s going on?
