Steam manual update fix Windows XP to Windows 7.
Steam officially now doesn’t support Windows XP Operating Systems. Of course this is unfortunate, but luckily not a disaster. We already made a fix in Porting Kit fixing this for when you install newly a Steam port in the database. But for the people who already installed a Steam port for quite a while now and are not in de mood for deleting and reinstalling the game in Porting Kit, we have a quick simple instruction to fix this manually.
Instruction steps:
Step 1: Go to Porting Kit on the Local Library tab and right-click the port (make sure you activate the right-click option on your magic mouse or touchpad) and in the menu go to “wineskin tools” –> “Wine Configuration”. Then on the general tab you see that the Windows version is set on “Windows XP”, change that to “Windows 7” and “Apply” and exit the Window. Now you are done and ready.
Launch your Steam app and it will update the Steam application and it should work again. The downside of the Windows 7 OS is that the steam store is not showing properly. We implanted a function to fix that part to activate the “Use wineskin unofficial wrapper” in the preferences of Porting Kit. But that requires a reinstall of the game in Porting Kit. But if you don’t need the store and want to only play the already installed game, then you are good to go.
have fun!
