Steam Wrapper fix
I wanted to make a seperate post for a work around for the Steam client issue with the latest update. Thanks John for the config file tip!
It is possible to stop Steam updating to the latest version. To do this create a text file containing the following text: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable
Save the file as ‘Steam.cfg’ and put it in the steam folder of your wrapper doing: rightclick the specific Steam wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> navigate to the Steam folder and (re)place the file into the Steam wrapper and then launch Steam.. This needs to be done before you run Steam for the first time. If Steam had already updated itself then use a backup wrapper if you have one. So again this fix will only work if the Steam client isn’t updated yet.
Don’t want to redownload the whole game again? Rightclick wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder to the desktop and trash the old wrapper. Then Rightclick the “new” wrapper –> show package content –> c_drive –> program files –> Steam –> drag the “SteamApps” folder into the Steam folder + the steam.cfg file and then launch the wrapper and you should be able to play without re-downloading anything again. We will meanwhile update the Steam wrappers where possible.
Sounds great, but where can I get that new wrapper? I’ve a Empire Total war game in Steam, but the wrapper is not there anymore as it has actually a Mac version, and I would prefer not to pay the game again. Any Idea?
Thanks in advance
Hi. After I did this I installed Payday 2 with the wrapper. But now it seems like I can’t open Steam again after the installation of PD2 was done :( So now I can’t play it. U know why this is happening?
Hey! Thanks for everything you’re doing. I actually have a problem though. I made a .txt file and converted into cfg and put it in the steam folder. When I open the wrapper I get an error…something like “missing key/value separator (=) in line: Helvetica” (weirdly the helvetica is the font I used for the text). Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks again!
