Wrapper update: Anno 1404 Gold – Startup issues fixed (Intel/Apple Silicon)

Another game port fix for today. This time a startup fix has been implemented for Apple Silicon/Intel Macs for the game Anno 1404 Gold. The game suffered from a startup error, which was caused because of the Directx handling of the game (Directx10 by default). For Intel based Macs the extra instructions needs to be executed by editing the config.ini file of the game:

Extra instructions:
1. after install of the port run the game once. It won’t continue after the intro. Force quit the game.
2. then click in portingkit on the installed tab at the game on “more” –> “Open C: Drive”
3. Navigate to “Users -> Wineskin -> App data –> roaming –> Ubisoft –> Anno1404 -> config
4. Open Engine.ini with text editor and add the line: <DirectXVersion>9</DirectXVersion>
5. Close the editor and launch the game. It should work now.

For the Apple Silicon Mac’s this should normally not be necessary, but if you do experience it, you might execute the same instructions to fix it.

So if you experienced the issue as well in the past but didn’t report it, then please retry installing the game again and it should work again. If you don’t own the game yet, then get the game on GOG up here… and install it in Porting Kit and play!

  1. Thank you Paul. I tried playing this game so many times and to no avail.

    After implementing your fix, it works like a charm. I guess I have to shelf Pharaoh and Cleopatra for a while :)
